Easiest Fruits and Vegetables to Grow

Fruits

When it comes to harvesting fruit, berries are the easiest way to go. Apples are a close second and are also one of the easiest fruits to grow.

1. Strawberries

Strawberries are considered one of the easiest fruits to go for a few reasons – they can adapt to various climates and conditions, require minimal maintenance, and grow fast.

There’s nothing like fresh strawberries from the garden – these are my absolute favorite. They taste so much better than store-bought strawberries, which often go bad very quickly. Start with harvesting strawberries for a delicious and highly nutritious way to eat them!

2. Blackberries

Blackberries are another fruit that is remarkably easy to grow.  They are hearty plants and can tolerate heat and cold better than most other fruits. They also grow quickly compared to many other fruit trees, and as perennials will come back year after year.

3. Raspberries

If you’re a newbie gardener, raspberries are another good fruit to start with. They are able to grow in a variety of climates and soil types and produce a high yield of fruit.

They also naturally send out suckers (shoots from the base of the plant or from the roots) that will expand and grow into new plants!

4. Blueberries

Blueberries are another fruit that is relatively easy to grow, given the right conditions. They’re perennial, where they grow back every year without you having to replant anything.

They are also pretty tolerant to dry or drought conditions and yield a surprisingly large amount of fruit for their size.

They still require frequent sunlight and regular watering for best results.

5. Tomatoes

Yes, remember tomatoes are a fruit! Tomatoes are one of the most popular plants to grow because of their ease of growth and their delicious taste. You simply can’t compare a store-bought tomato to a homegrown one – the difference in taste and quality is enormous.

Tomatoes are versatile as they can be grown in the ground, but they’re also suited for containers. So if you have limited space for your garden, you can simply plant your tomatoes in a small container on your apartment deck or patio.

Tomato plants can also produce an abundance of fruit and will continue producing until the first frost of the season.

Vegetables

1. Peppers

Peppers are an easy-to-grow crop and are a great vegetable to start with as a beginner. They can produce a high yield for a single plant and are compact. Peppers are also sustainable as they may continue to produce until the first frost.

They also come in a lot of varieties, allowing you to choose what you like best.

2. Carrots

Carrots are another easy vegetable to start with for your home garden. They are adaptable to various climates, are highly nutritious, and can be used in a variety of recipes.

They are typically grown from seeds, which are sowed directly into your garden soil, and have a long growing season to produce a large crop yield.

3. Green beans

Green beans are another easy vegetable to grow. They are fast-growing and typically produce beans in as little as 50-60 days. They also grow in abundance and are adaptable to various climates.

4. Lettuce

Lettuce is considered one of the easiest and most rewarding veggies to grow. They are very quick to grow if you don’t like to wait too long, sometimes as soon as 30 days after planting.

They also do well in cool weather, so they can be one of the first crops planted in the spring and then they typically survive until heavy frosts.

5. Cucumbers

Cucumbers are another home gardener’s favorite, and taste so fresh and delicious from the garden! They provide a plentiful harvest from just a few plants and are also suitable for those who have limited garden space and need to use containers.

They can also be grown in multiple ways, such as being allowed to grow on the ground up trained up a trellis, a metal or wood frame used to preserve space.

Fruits and Vegetables to Buy

If you’re pressed for time or don’t particularly enjoy gardening for hours, you may be better off buying the fruits and veggies not on this list from the store. These crops require more maintenance to grow on your own, and may not be worth the time and cost savings you’ll receive from them.

If you are going to start a garden and want to keep things simple, I’d recommend starting with the options in this article and adding more to the mix if you get more comfortable.
